Naxal attack in Chhattisgarh

In an encounter between Central paramilitary forces and Maoists in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma, bodies of 22 personnel were recovered on April 4, 2021.

  • According to K. Vijay Kumar, Senior Security Adviser, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the Maoists were trying to disrupt the construction of a road near Silger-Jagargunda. The encounter took place inside a forest near Jonaguda village.
  • According to the India Today, the operation was launched based on the intelligence inputs about the presence of Maoists of PLGA (Peoples’ Liberation Guerilla Army) Battalion No. 1 led by Madvi Hidma, a Naxal commander involved in many deadly attacks on security forces.
  • The PLGA was founded on December 2, 2000, originally as the People’s Guerrilla Army (PGA), by the then Communist Party of India–Marxist-Leninist (People’s War). Following the merger of the People’s War and the Maoist Communist Centre of India (MCCI), on September 21, 2004, the People’s Guerrilla Army (PGA) was renamed as the PLGA.
