- The Northeast Frontier Railway Construction Organisation has started the construction of world’s tallest railway bridge in Manipur.
- The work was started after putting in place tall piers near Manipur’s Noney.
- The proposed bridge, across the valley of river Ijai, is part of the 111 km Jiribam-Tupul-Imphal project.
- Once completed, the Noney brdige will have a pier height of 141 m.
- The total length of the bridge will be 703 m. Its tall piers have been made with a specially designed technique to ensure efficient and continual construction
- Currently, the record for the tallest railway bridge is held by the 139 m Mala Rijeka viaduct, Montenegro.
