Union Minister of State for Home G. Kishan Reddy on September 25, 2019 inaugurated a new integrated emergency helpline number ‘112’ for Delhi and flagged off ‘prakhar’, a street crime patrol van in the Capital.
Emergency Response Number ‘112’
- The new number will be common for all emergency services, including police, ambulance, fire brigade and others. Till the time people get used to the new helpline number, all other emergency numbers will be active.
- The person in distress can approach the police through Single Emergency Response Number i.e. ‘112’ either through dial or through mobile application. In case of emergency, a person can dial 112 from phone or press power button thrice on smart phone to activate a panic call to Emergency Response Centre (ERC). This call will be immediately passed on to the control room for providing quick police assistance. The distress calls can also be made through social media, e-mail, SMS etc.
Prakhar vans
- ‘Prakhar’ vans will patrol at vulnerable spots to control street crime.
- A total of 15 vans equipped with modern devices will conduct extensive patrolling on street crime prone areas in Delhi.
- Prakhar street crime control patrol vehicle was conceptualised under ‘Safe City Project’ to curb street crime.
