About the National Board for Wildlife (NBWL)
🔹 Apex advisory body for wildlife policy & conservation in India.
🔹 Established in 2003, following an amendment to The Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972.
🔹 Last full-body NBWL meeting was held on September 5, 2012, chaired by then PM Manmohan Singh.
🔹 Composition:
- Chairperson: Prime Minister
- Vice-Chairperson: Union Environment Minister
- 47 members including:
- Chief of the Army Staff
- Secretaries from key ministries (Defence, Finance, Tribal Affairs, etc.)
- Three Lok Sabha MPs & one Rajya Sabha MP
- Director General of Forest
