Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers D V Sadananda Gowda has said that Nano Urea developed by public sector fertiliser producer IFFCO will create a revolution in the agriculture sector.
- The minister informed that Nano Urea will enter the market on June 15 and 500 ML will cost 240 rupees.
What is nano urea?
- In the nano-urea, nanotechnology is used to produce nano-urea to improve its nutrient efficiency.
- The production of the nano urea comprises two steps; urea quinhydrone mixed liquor is firstly prepared, and then, the obtained mixed liquor is sprayed onto calcium cyanamide granules to form the nano urea.
- In India, the commercial use of nano-urea was allowed in November 2020.
- IFFCO is producing a new ‘nano’ technology based on nitrogen fertilizer.
- The company plans to produce 25m bottles/year. Each bottle of 500 millilitres will be able to replace a 45-kg bags of urea.
- Nano Urea is environment friendly and cuts the input cost of the farmers by 15 percent.
- Apart from enriching the soil, this new product will increase yield by 15 to 20 percent.
- Experts believe that this nano-urea has the potential to cut overall urea consumption by half. For instance, if farmers are using two bags of urea in one acre, they may try one bag and one bottle of nano-urea.
- The country needs 350 lakh metric tonnes of urea every year.
- Introduction of Nano urea is said to reduce the usage of ordinary urea used now, thereby saving 600 crore rupees subsidy given by the Government.
- The country’s dependence on import of urea will also come down.
