Minorities Rights Day was observed across the nation on December 18, 2020.
- On this occasion, the National Commission for Minorities felicitated 12 covid warriors from all the six notified minority communities in appreciation of their exemplary contribution to the society during pandemic.
- This day is observed to protect the rights of minority communities, as a contribution to nation-building, to ensure the security of minorities in their particular language, caste, religion, culture, tradition, etc.
- The Minorities Rights Day in the country was first observed on December 18, 2013.
- On this day in 1992, the United Nations had declared the Statement on the Individual’s Rights belonging to Religious or Linguistic National or Ethnic Minorities.
