A Russian firm, Lysterra LLC has evinced interest in the encapsulation technology (biocapsule), developed and patented by the Indian Institute of Spices Research (IISR), Kozhikode, for crops. IISR inked the agreement with Lysterra LLC for the commercialisation of this technology.
About Microbial encapsulation technology (Bio-capsule)
- Microbial encapsulation technology ensures the successful delivery of biologically competent beneficial microbes.
- The bio-capsule uses a select combination of beneficial microorganisms such as Trichoderma, Pseudomonas and Bacillus.
- Unlike the traditional microbial formulations, the novel encapsulation technology developed by a team of scientists led by former IISR Director M. Anandaraj gives it the advantage of easy storage, usage and transport while maintaining a high microbial count.
- One capsule can be diluted using 100-200 litres of water, based on the microorganism present in the capsule.
- The product has gained increased acceptance among the farming community across the country as it finds usage in the cultivation of spices, vegetable cultivation, and other crops.
