Marathi writer Dr Sharankumar Limbale to receive Saraswati Samman 2020

Noted Marathi writer Dr Sharankumar Limbale was selected for the 2020 Saraswati Samman (the 30th edition of the prize) for his book Sanatan.

  • Dr Limbale’s Sanatan has been published in 2018. The book is an important social and historical document of dalit struggle.
  • The Saraswati Samman, instituted in 1991, is given every year to an outstanding literary work written in any Indian language mentioned in Schedule VIII to the Constitution by an Indian citizen published during the 10 years preceding the specified year.
  • This is a prestigious literary recognition conferred annually by the KK Birla Foundation.
  • The award carries fifteen lakh rupees, a citation and a plaque.
  • Saraswati Samman is recognised as the most prestigious and highest literary award in the country.
