Mathematician Nikhil Srivastava wins Ciprian Foias Prize

Indian-American mathematician Nikhil Srivastava along with Adam Marcus and Daniel Spielman have been jointly selected for the inaugural $5,000 Ciprian Foias Prize awarded by the American Mathematical Society (AMS).

  • Nikhil Srivastava, who teaches at the University of California, Berkeley, was awarded for “highly original work” in Operator Theory. Along with Professor Srivastava.
  • Their work developed methods for understanding the characteristic polynomial of matrices, namely the iterative sparsification method and the method of interlacing polynomials.
