- According to the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), total 95 tiger deaths were recorded in 2017. It is less 2 of 2016.
- As per the report, Madhya Pradesh recorded the highest tiger death in the country for a second consecutive year in 2017.
- 25 out of the 95 tiger deaths reported in the country took place in MP, followed by 17 in Maharashtra and 15 each in Karnataka and Uttarakhand.
- In 2016, total 96 tiger deaths were reported in the country. Out of which 30 deaths were reported from Madhya Pradesh.
- Reasons behind tiger deaths are; poaching, infighting, infection and collision with train.
- According to the tiger census conducted in 2015, tiger numbers had increased in Madhya Pradesh from 257 in 2010 to 308 in 2015. However, since January 2016, 55 tigers have died in the state.
- Known as the tiger state of India, Madhya Pradesh lost the tag to Karnataka in 2010 following a census conducted by the Wildlife Institute of India. Now, Karnataka is leading the tiger census.
