Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI)

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on 9th May inaugurated and laid foundation stone for various development projects of the Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI) and Border Security Force (BSF), close to India-Bangladesh border, in West Bengal.

  • The Union home minister inaugurated Maitridwar at ICP Petrapole, BSF’s newly constructed Border Outposts (BOPs) and other buildings, virtually.
  • He said that several initiatives have been taken for the Land Ports Authority of India in the last five years. These include Port Automation System, Land Port Management System, Land Port Digital Security and Monitoring System, Digital Port Asset Management System, Suvidha Portal, an Integrated Check Post at Attari and providing passenger amenities at the Agartala Land Port.

Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI)

  • It was established as a statutory body under the Department of Border Management, Ministry of Home Affairs.
  • The Land Ports Authority of India is entrusted with the task of building land ports on India‘s borders and provide state of the art infrastructure facilities to facilitate seamless and efficient movement of cargo and passengers.
  • LPAI endeavours to provide safe, secure and systematic facilities for movement of cargo as well passengers at its ICPs.
  • The majority of services at the ICPs are free, except those meant for trade which are charged as per the prescribed rates of tariff.
  • The chargeable services for trade include charges for parking, weighment services, loading/unloading and warehousing. For passengers, there is no entry fee. All passenger facilities at the ICPs are free.
