The central government on October 27, 2021 appointed K V Kamath as the chairperson of newly set up Rs 20,000-crore development finance institution (DFI), National Bank for Financing Infrastructure and Development.
- The NaBFID aims to help fund about 7,000 infra projects under the National Infrastructure Pipeline.
- Kamath, the first head of the New Development Bank (NDB) set up by the BRICS group of emerging market economies, had completed his five-year tenure in 2020.
- Earlier, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had introduced the National Bank for Financing Infrastructure and Development (NaBFID) Bill 2021 in the Lok Sabha.
