K.R. Gouri, the lone woman member in Kerala’s first Cabinet, died on May 11. She was 102.
- She was born on July 14, 1919 into a wealth family as the seventh daughter of K.A. Raman and Parvathi Amma at Pattanakad in Alappuzha.
- One of the longest-serving members in the Kerala Assembly, Ms. Gouri served as Revenue Minister in the first Communist Ministry in 1957.
- She piloted the historic land reforms Bill, which heralded the end of feudalism in Kerala.
