Jan Shikshan Sansthan

The Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS) has brought high-speed internet to some of the remotest tribal hamlets deep inside the Nilambur jungle in Kerala.

  • For the first time, the Palakkayam, Vettilakkolli and Ambumala tribal hamlets got high-speed internet, thanks to long-distance Wi-Fi technology.

About Jan Shikshan Sansthan

  • Jan Shikshan Sansthan, an initiative by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship aims to provide vocational training to non-literates, neo-literates as well as school drop-outs in rural regions by identifying skills that have a relevant market in that region.
  • Over two-thirds of India’s population comprises rural citizens. The objective of JSS is to uplift this rural population economically by imparting essential skills training, thereby enabling local trades to grow and creating new opportunities for the natives of the region.
  • The JSSs offer the courses in 22 sectors. Some of the popular sectors are Apparel Made-Ups & Home Furnishing, Beauty & Wellness, Handicrafts & Carpets, Food Processing, Agriculture, Domestic Worker, Electronics & Hardware, Plumbing etc. During 2021-22, 87 NSQF compliant courses suitable to JSSs have been identified.
