Jai Ram Thakur (BJP), the 52-year-old, five-time MLA from the Siraj constituency in Mandi district will be the sixth (as a person sixth, in number 13th) Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh.
-Mr. Thakur was first elected to the Vidhan Sabha in 1998 during the first Prem Kumar Dhumal government from the Chahiot constituency, which was renamed as Siraj after delimitation.
-He will be the first Chief Minister from Mandi district, which is the second largest district after Kangra, sending 10 MLAs to the Assembly.
-He was born into a farming family in Mandi district in 1965. His father was poor and it was tough for him to feed the family of three sons and two daughters. Being the last child helped Jai Ram. His father and brothers worked in the fields to get him a better education.
Assembly Election 2017: Election for the 68 member Himachal Pradesh assembly was held on 9 NOvember, 2017. Counting was done on 18 December. Voting turnout was 78%. BJP got 44 seats (48.8%) and congress got 21 seats (41.7%).

-Post Independence, 30 princely states of the area were united and Himachal Pradesh was formed on 15th April, 1948.
