The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will establish Human Space Flight Centre (HSFC) at Challakere, in Karanataka, reports The Hindu.
- The proposed world-class facility will train future astronauts.
- It will be established in three years at Challakere, a shrubby, arid oilseeds town on the Bengaluru-Pune NH4 in Chitradurga district of Karnataka.
- ISRO has proposed a ₹ 2,700-crore master plan to create top infrastructure that will house its young Human Space Flight Centre (HSFC).
- According to K. Sivan, ISRO Chairman and Secretary, Department of Space, everything connected with events and planning of the Human Spaceflight Programme will shift to our campus at Challakere.
- Challakere is called Oil City with number of edible oil mills around the city and also Science City as several science and research organizations such as IISc, DRDO, BARC and ISRO have set up their establishments here.
