- United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced to confer the prestigious Zayed Medal on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
- The Zayed Medal is the highest decoration awarded to kings, presidents and heads of states.
- According to the UAE, the award comes in appreciation of Prime Minister Modi’s role in consolidating the long-standing friendship and joint strategic cooperation between the two countries.
- While announcing the award, President of the UAE Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan said that UAE has historical and comprehensive strategic ties with India, reinforced by the pivotal role of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who gave these relations a big boost.

- Vladimir Putin, Pervez Musharraf, Queen Elizabeth II, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Xi Jinping are other prominent recipients of this award.
- Prime Minister Modi has paid two visits to UAE. During Prime Minister’s second visit to UAE in February 2018, two sides had signed five agreements related to energy sector, railways, manpower and financial services. It was also reported that UAE president played an important role to de-escalate India-Pakistan tensions in the wake of the Pulwama terror attack.
