INSPIRESat-1 (IS-1) CubeSat, developed under the International Satellite Program in Research and Education (INSPIRE), is ready for launch.
- The small satellite that weighs less than 10 kg will be launched aboard an upcoming Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) mission of the ISRO.
- INSPIRESat-1 is being developed jointly by the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) at the University of Colorado, the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), the National Central University (NCU) Taiwan and the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Singapore.
- The CubeSat carries two scientific instruments: the Compact Ionospheric Probe (CIP) and the Dual-zone Aperture X-ray Solar Spectrometer (DAXSS). It also carries a Command and Data Handling board developed by IIST.
- The mission will study Earth’s dynamic ionosphere and the highly-variable solar X-ray radiation.
