India’s first sand dune park

Goa is set to be home to the country’s first sand dune park which will further promote the tourism activities.

  • The World Bank has accepted the proposal of the Biodiversity Board of the state and has sanctioned a sum of 3 crores for the project.
  • Morjim and Galibaga beaches are among the ones that’ll get this sand dune feature.

What are sand dunes?

  • Sand dunes are geological deposits formed by the action of wind.
  • A sand dune is a mount, hill or ridge of sand that lies behind the part of the beach affected by tides.
  • They are formed over many years when windblown sand is trapped by beach grass or other stationary objects.
  • According to Encyclopedic, a dune is a mound of sand this is formed by the wind, usually along the beach or in a desert.
  • Dunes are not permanent structures.
