India’s 1st state-owned Wildlife DNA lab to opened in Nagpur

Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Uddhav Thackeray inaugurated India’s 1st State government-owned Wildlife DNA testing analysis laboratory at Regional Forensic Science Laboratory (RFSL) in Nagpur.

  • With the inauguration of Nagpur Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), DNA samples of the animals can be tested within the state. For now, samples were being sent to laboratories in Hyderabad or Dehradun for testing.
  • At present, there are two Wildlife DNA testing laboratories at Dehradun & Hyderabad, which are fully owned by the Central Government, whereas the newly launched is the first in India to be owned by a state government.
