Indian Scientists have developed a nanorods-based oxygen sensor which works at room temperature with assistance of UV irradiation and can detect oxygen gas concentrations in places such as underground mines, at higher altitudes, inside aeroplanes and research labs.
What are nanorods?
- Nanorods are nanostructures that are the object of fundamental and applied research.
- Nanorods may be prepared from carbon, gold, zinc oxide, and many other materials.
- They are bigger than individual atoms and also than small molecules.
- Among 1-D nanostructures (nanorods), nanorods have the advantage as it can bemade from most elements (metals and nonmetals) and compounds.
- Its applications include drug delivery, bioimaging, photothermaltherapy nanocapacitors, etc.
