Indian Navy launches Operation Vanilla to aid rescue efforts in Madagascar

The Indian Navy on January 28, 2020 launched Operation Vanilla under which it diverted an amphibious warfare vessel INS Airavat to Madagascar to help in rescue efforts after the island nation was hit by a cyclone.

Madagascar has been hit by a Tropical Cyclone Ava and there has been heavy flooding and landslips causing loss of lives.

Government of India’s assistance to Madagascar is in consonance with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Security and Growth for all in the Region (SAGAR).
