Karnataka will soon get its first Indian Grey Wolf sanctuary in Koppal district of Kalyana-Karnataka region.
- The State Wildlife Board, chaired by the Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, on January 20, 2021 approved a proposal to set up a wolf sanctuary spread over 800 acres of forest area at Bankapura-2 reserve in Gangavathi division of Koppal.
- The Indian grey wolves inhabit the dry grassland region in the Koppal district.
- A Schedule-1 Species under WPA 1972, the grey wolf is also listed as an endangered species in Appendix-1 of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES).
