India-US TRUST Initiative

Under the Transforming Relationship Utilizing Strategic Technology (TRUST) initiative announced during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Washington in February 2025, the two countries will reduce barriers to technology transfer, address export controls, and enhance high tech commerce.

  • Under this initiative, emphasis will be laid on creating strong supply chains of critical minerals, advanced materials and pharmaceuticals.
  • Technology Transfer & Export Controls – TRUST aims to reduce barriers to the transfer of high-tech and strategic technologies between India and the U.S.
  • Strengthening Critical Supply Chains – Focuses on critical minerals, advanced materials, and pharmaceuticals, reducing dependency on China.
  • Strategic Minerals Recovery & Processing – Initiatives for lithium, rare earth elements, and other key resources vital for green energy and high-tech industries.
  • Bilateral Engagement Over Multilateralism – Unlike MSP (Minerals Security Partnership) and the Minerals Security Finance Network, TRUST is a direct India-U.S. collaboration.
  • Pharmaceutical Supply Chain Resilience – Strengthening Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) production, reducing India’s dependence on Chinese imports.
