India to procure over six lakh AK-203 Assault Rifles from Russia

The 21st India Russia Annual Summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin was held at Hyderabad House in New Delhi on December 6, 2021.

  • The first 2 Plus 2 dialogue between defence and foreign ministers of Russia also took place on December 6 in New Delhi.
  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar represented the Indian side in the 2 Plus 2 Dialogue and the Russian side was represented by their Foreign Affairs Minister and Defence Minister.
  • Four agreements were signed after this meeting, including contract for procurement of over six lakh AK-203 Assault Rifles and agreement on Program for Military Technical Cooperation from 2021 to 2031.
  • These rifles will be indigenously produced at Korwa, in Uttar Pradesh.
  • AK-203 Assault Rifles will tremendously augment the operational capability of our soldiers.
  • AK-203 Rifle, having an effective range of 300 meters is a light weight and easy to use Modern Assault weapon with proven technology. This will enhance the combat potential of our soldiers to meet the operational challenges. Both countries set a target of trade worth 30 billion dollars and investment worth 50 billion dollars by 2025.
