India TB Report 2022 was released on March 24, 2022. As per the report, a 19% increase was witnessed in 2021 from the previous year in TB patients’ notification.
- The number of incident TB patients (new and relapse) notified during 2021 was 19,33,381 against the 16,28,161 in 2020.
- At the same time, there has been an increase in the mortality rate due to all forms of TB between 2019 and 2020 by 11 per cent in India.
- India aims to eliminate TB by 2025 according to the National Strategic Plan for Elimination of Tuberculosis (NSP 2017- 25) and eighteen States have committed to Ending TB by 2025 by formally implementing State specific Strategic Plans.
- India’s Ending TB by 2025 is five years ahead of the target for TB set by SDG 2030.
Step Up to End TB
- In an event to celebrate World TB Day 2022, the Governor of Uttar Pradesh, Smt. Anandiben Patel virtually inaugurated the “Step Up to End TB” event on March 24.
Dare to Erade TB program
- The “Dare to Erade TB” program was also launched which is based on Indian data, and formation of a Genome Sequencing Consortium for WSG TB surveillance.
World Tuberculosis Day 2022
- World Tuberculosis Day 2022 was observed on March 24 with the theme of ‘Invest to End TB. Save Lives.’
