India on November 9, 2024 gifted two water-jet propelled Fast Interceptor Craft (FIC) to Mozambique as part of capacity-building engagements with friendly foreign nations in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
- The Fast Interceptor Crafts were transshipped from India by INS Gharial.
- The Handing Over Ceremony was attended by the High Commissioner of India in Mozambique Robert Shetkintong.
- The Fast Interceptor Crafts are capable of reaching speeds of 45 knots and equipped with machine guns and bullet-resistant cabins.
- They will significantly enhance Mozambique’s capability to address maritime threats, including terrorism and insurgency in the Cabo Delgado region.
- India donated two large interceptor vessels in 2019 and two similar FICs in January 2022 to Mozambique as well, demonstrating India’s commitment to regional maritime security.
