The India Biodiversity Award was declared on May 22, 2021 during the International Day for Biological Diversity.
- Shaji N.M., fondly called ‘Tuber Man of Kerala’ has been awarded the India Biodiversity Award 2021 in the individual category of ‘Conservation of domesticated species’. Mr. Shaji conserves a wide array of around 200 tuber crops, including greater yam, lesser yam, elephant foot yam, arrow root, colocasia, sweet potato, cassava and Chinese potato, at his farm in Wayanad.
- Nagaland’s Khonoma Nature Conservation & Tragopan Sanctuary (KNCTS) won the India Biodiversity Awards 2021 under the category “Sustainable Use of Biological Resources.”
- The forest range officer of Ramanathapuram sub division of Gulf of Mannar Marine National Park S Sathish has bagged the ‘India Biodiversity Award .
About India Biodiversity Awards
- The India Biodiversity Awards are given from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) and the United National Development Programme (UNDP).
- The award, carrying Rs 2 lakh cash prize and citation, was declared on May 22, 2021 during the International Day for Biological Diversity.
