India-Australia Sign Mutual Logistics Support Agreement

The ‘virtual’ summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison took place on June 4, 2020.

India and Australia raised their relationship to a “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership” .

Two sides concluded nine agreements including a Mutual Logistics Support Agreement (MLSA). The Agreement will allow the two countries to use each other’s military bases for logistics support, including food, water, and petroleum.

India now has such arrangements with the US, France, Japan and Australia.

Both sides issued a joint declaration on a “Shared Vision for Maritime Cooperation in the Indo-Pacific.”

India and Australia also agreed to increase the frequency of meetings between the two Prime Ministers.

The also agreed to took the “2+2” format of bilateral meetings to the level of Foreign and Defence Ministers, who will meet to “discuss strategic issues” at least every two years.
