Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 14 said that under the I2U2 Framework, India-Israel-UAE-USA are working to increase investments in the fields of water, energy, environment, health and space.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined his Israeli counterpart Yair Lapid, United Arab Emirates President Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan and US President Joe Biden for the I2U2 Summit.
- The meeting was held during Biden’s first visit to West Asia since becoming president.
Integrated food parks across India
- The United Arab Emirates (UAE) announced an investment of USD 2 billion to develop a series of integrated food parks across India as part of efforts by the four-nation grouping I2U2 to help tackle food insecurity in South Asia and the Middle East.
- It will incorporate state-of-the-art climate-smart technologies to reduce food waste and spoilage, conserve fresh water, and employ renewable energy sources.
Hybrid renewable energy project in Gujarat
- The I2U2 group will also advance a hybrid renewable energy project in Gujarat consisting of 300 megawatts (MW) of wind and solar capacity, complemented by a battery energy storage system.
- The Prime Minister Modi said that I2U2 has set a positive agenda from the very first summit and by combining the skills of the nations, they can come together for the good of humanity.
- Addressing the First I2U2 Summit in a virtual format, the Prime Minister said, they will work towards ensuring food security and propelling development initiatives globally.
About I2U2
- The new forum is called “I2U2” — “I” for India and Israel and “U” for the US and UAE.
- I2U2 was established as an international forum for economic cooperation at a virtual meeting of foreign ministers of the four countries October 2021.
- These countries have said there is no military angle to their cooperation and they are pushing a constructive agenda focused on the economy, especially infrastructure projects.
