The Human Freedom Index 2020, released on December 17, 2020 placed India at 111 out of 162 countries.
- The report is co‐published by the Cato Institute and the Fraser Institute.
- The index ranked India 110 in terms of personal freedom and 105 on economic freedom, with an overall score coming to 6.43 out of 10.
- On personal freedom parameter, India scored 6.20 out of 10, and 6.56 in economic freedom. The overall human freedom score was 6.43.
- The countries that took the top 10 places, in order, were New Zealand (score of 8.87), Switzerland (score of 8.82), Hong Kong, Denmark, Australia, Canada, Ireland, Estonia, and Germany and Sweden (tied in 9th place).
