India’s Harnaaz Sandhu was crowned Miss Universe on December 13, 2021. She became the first Indian contestant since Lara Dutta to have been crowned the title. Harnaaz was showered with congratulatory messages from many, including Priyanka Chopra and Sushmita Sen.
- Sandhu is the third Indian to wear the crown after Sushmita Sen (1994) and Lara Dutta (2000).
- Miss Universe 2021 ceremony was held at Universe Dome in Eilat, Israel. Harnaaz was competing against Lalela Mswane from South Africa and Nadia Ferreira from Paraguay.
- Harnaaz Sandhu, 21, is a model from Chandigarh who has completed her schooling and college from the city itself.
