Renowned Urdu poet Gulzar and Sanskrit scholar Jagadguru Rambhadracharya will receive the 58th Jnanpith Award (for 2023) .
Gulzar
- Sampooran Singh Kalra, popularly known as Gulzar is known for his works in Hindi cinema and is considered one of the finest Urdu poets of this era.
- He has written poems and lyrics for countless films in a career spanning over six decades.
- He has earlier received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, Padma Bhushan, Sahitya Akademi Award etc.
Jagadguru Rambhadracharya
- Jagadguru Rambhadracharya is the founder and chief of Tulsi Peeth in Chitrakoot and is a renowned Hindu spiritual leader, educator, and writer of more than 240 books and texts.
- Rambhadracharya is one of the four Jagadguru Ramanandacharyas of the Ramananda sect and has been holding this position since 1982.
- He speaks 22 languages.
Jnanpith Award
- The Jnanpith Award is presented by the Bharatiya Jnanpith organisaiton, established by the Shahu Shanti Prasad Jain in 1944.
- The prestigious Jnanpith Award was instituted in 1961, and is given annually for outstanding contributions to Indian literature.
- The recipients of Jnanpith award are given a cash prize of Rs 11 lakh, a citation plaque and a bronze replica of Goddess Saraswati.
- Malyalam author G.S. Kurup was the first recipient of this award (1965). Konkani writer Damodar Mauzo won the 57th Jnanpith Award.
