- The Central Government has decided to set up a high-level committee headed by the Union Home Secretary to formulate appropriate measures to deal with mob lynching incidents in the country. It was informed by the Union Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh on July 23, 2018.
- The committee has been given four weeks to make its recommendations to the Government.
- As per the Union Home Minister, the Government has also decided to constitute a Group of Ministers headed by the Home Minister to consider the recommendations of the high-level committee. They will submit their recommendations to the Prime Minister.
- The committee was set up after n the Alwar lynching incident. A man was lynched on July 21, 2018 in Alwar city of Rajasthan allegedly by cow vigilantes.
