Group of 20 (G20) Summit 2024

The 19th Group of 20 summit under Brazil Presidency was held on 18-19 Nov 2024 in Brazil’s Rio De Janeiro.

  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed the opening session of the G 20 Summit on 18th November on ‘Social Inclusion and the Fight against Hunger and Poverty’.
  • Prime Minister thanked the President of Brazil for hosting the Summit and for his gracious hospitality.
  • Mr. Modi further underscored that the Indian G20 presidency’s call for “One Earth, One Family, One Future” continued to resonate at the Rio conversations.
  • The G20 leaders’ Rio de Janeiro Declaration reiterated the need for rapidly scaling up climate finance “from billions to trillions”, which they acknowledged in the 2023 New Delhi meeting as well.
  • The Declaration emphasizes the taxation of billionaires, energy transition, support for COP30 in Brasil, and solutions to global challenges, with a focus on sustainable growth and the fight against poverty.
  • Support for unprecedented themes in the forum marks the Brazilian presidency.
  • The final communique hardly mentioned Israel, which has been criticized for its tactics against the Iran-backed Hamas and Hezbollah in the conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon.
