The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology on September 2, 2020 blocked 118 mobile apps with China links including popular PUBG Mobile.
- Government banned the apps invoking it’s power under section 69A of the Information Technology Act and relevant provisions of the Information Technology (Procedure and Safeguards for Blocking of Access of Information by Public) Rules 2009.
- As per the Government, these apps are engaged in activities which is prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order.
- The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre under Ministry of Home Affairs has also sent an exhaustive recommendation for blocking these malicious apps..
- PUBG Mobile has millions of downloads and active users in the country and this makes for a big loss of Tencent, the parent company.
