The Central Government on April 6, 2020 approved an Ordinance amending the Salary, Allowances and Pension of Members of Parliament Act, 1954 for reducing salary by 30 per cent for one year. It will come into effect from 1st of this month (April). Accordingly he salary of Union Ministers and members of Parliament will be cut by 30 per cent for one year.
MPLAD Fund suspended
The Union Cabinet has also decided to suspend MPLAD fund for two years from 2020-2021 to 2021-2022.An amount to the tune of 7900 crore rupees will be accumulated and deposited in the consolidated Fund of India to fight COVID-19
About MPLAD Fund
The Members of Parliament Local Area Development Division of the Ministry of statistics and programme implementation is entrusted with the responsibility of implementation of Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS).
Under the scheme, which was launched on December 23, 1993, each MP has the choice to suggest to the District Collector for works to the tune of Rs.5 Crores per annum to be taken up in his/her constituency.
The Rajya Sabha Members of Parliament can recommend works in one or more districts in the State from where he/she has been elected.
The Nominated Members of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha may select any one or more Districts from any one State in the Country for implementation of their choice of work under the scheme.
