GOA LIBERATION DAY

President Ramnath Kovind is attending the 60th Goa liberation day being held in Panaji on December 19, 2020.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi and many other dignitaries have greeted the people of Goa on this occasion
  • Goa was known in the bygone days as Gomanchala, Gopakapattam, Gopakapuri, Govapuri, Gomantak, etc.
  • Goa was liberated from Portuguese rule of around 450 years on the 19th of December 1961.
  • On 30 May 1987 Goa was conferred statehood by the 56th Constitutional Amendment Act, 1987.
