India has jumped four places on the Global Innovation Index 2020 to rank at 48th position. India is now among the top 50 innovative countries in the world.
- The World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) released the Global Innovation Index ranking on September 2, 2020.
- Switzerland is the world’s most-innovative economy followed by Sweden, the United States of America (U.S.), the United Kingdom (U.K.) and the Netherlands, according to the GII 2020.
- In the last five years India’s progress has been phenomenal. In 2015, India was ranked at 81, in 2016 jumped 15 places to number 66. In 2017, it jumped 6 places again to 60th rank. In 2018, India climbed three more ranks to land at 57th position. In 2019, it jumped 5 places to rank 52nd on the list. And now, India finally broked into top 50 and is listed at 48th position.
- The 2020 edition of the Global Innovation Index (GII) presents the latest global innovation trends and the annual innovation ranking of 131 economies.
- Moving into its 13th edition in 2020, the GII has evolved into a valuable benchmarking tool that facilitates public-private dialogue and that helps policy-makers, business leaders, and other stakeholders to evaluate their innovation progress on an annual basis.
