Britain, Italy, and Japan have said that they would jointly develop a future fighter jet that uses artificial intelligence.
- The new “Global Combat Air Programme” is slated to produce its first jets by 2035, merging the three countries’ costly existing research into new aerial war technology, from stealth capacity to high-tech sensors.
- All three countries are already part of the US fifth-generation F-35 stealth fighter program. Under the F-35 program, all three contribute the development of the F-35 and the different versions of the warplane are assembled in Italy and Japan.
- While the F-35 program will continue, the focus will shift towards the sixth generational upgrades.
- The new jet will replace Britain’s Typhoon fighters and Japan’s F-2s.
