The National Task Force (NTF), during its meeting on December 26, 2020, recommended the setting up of a ‘Genomic Surveillance Consortium’ (INSACOG) to map the various SARS-CoV-2 strains circulating in India.
- INSACOG has been formed under the leadership of the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), New Delhi.
- The meeting was convened by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
- It was also decided that five percent of the positive cases of Covid-19 from all states and UTs will be tested for Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS).
- The national task force (NTF) has been formed by the government to organise and facilitate Covid-19 containment efforts in India.
