‘Five pillars’ based self reliance

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 12, 2020 announced a special economic package worth over 20 lakh crore rupees and 10% of India’s GDP in view of the coronavirus pandemic.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that building a Self Reliant India was essential in a post COVID-19 world. He highlighted that India’s self reliance would be based on 5 pillars – Economy, Infrastructure, System, Demography and Demand.

  1. Economy: An economy that doesn’t grow incrementally but makes quantum jumps
  2. Infrastructure: An infrastructure that gives India its modern indentity
  3. System: A technology-driven system
  4. Demography: A vibrant demographic mix;
  5. Demand: Better supply chains to spur demand.
