The First Khelo India School Games as the part of The Khelo India Programme ended on February 8, 2018 with Haryana winning the highest 38 gold medals.
- Khelo India School Games held at multiple venues across Delhi between January 31 to February 8, 2018.
- The legendary Indian tradition of ‘teacher-and-student’, referred to as the “Guru-Shishya Parampara” was celebrated in grand style at the Opening Ceremony of the inaugural Khelo India School Games (KISG) at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi on January 31, 2018. The prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the opening ceremony.
- Objective: Khelo India School Games is a part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambitious vision to make sports more popular across the nation and treat the programme as the first step towards making India a strong contender at the Olympic level. The Khelo India programme has been introduced to revive the sports culture in India at the grass-root level by building a strong framework for all sports played in our country and establish India as a great sporting nation.
- Anthem: Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Col. Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore had unveiled the Khelo India Anthem, a spirited composition, which resonates with the vision of the programme, of nurturing a rich sporting culture in the country on January 15, 2018. The anthem was conceptualized by Ogilvy, composed by Louis Bank and the film had been produced by Nirvana Films.
- Logo: The three-stroke Khelo India logo reflected the freshness, agility and vitality of New India was launched on 6 January. The colour of the Indian flag in logo evoke a sense of National pride and team-work. It was designed by Ogilvy India.
- Participation: Over 3500 athletes, 1250 officials and over 800 volunteers participated in the event. There were 16 disciplines under which there were in all 199 gold medals, 199 silver medals, 275 bronze medals were awarded.
- Medals: With 38 gold medal Haryana topped the medal tally followed by Maharashtra which won 36 Gold. Maharashtra came to second place despite winning highest 111 medal due to less gold medal.
- The Trophies in maximum participation category were awarded to Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan in that order.
- Anu Kumar of Uttarakhand grabbed the first gold medal of the Khelo India School Games.
- Maisnam Meiraba of Manipur won the final gold of the Games with a 16-21, 21-14, 21-18 victory in Badminton.
