Tuhin Kanta Pandey officially assumed charge as the 11th Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) on March 1, 2025. A career bureaucrat, he previously served as Finance Secretary and now replaces Madhabi Puri Buch, whose three-year tenure ended on February 28, 2025. Pandey has been appointed for a three-year term.

SEBI Chairman Appointment Process
- The SEBI Chairman is appointed by the Central Government based on recommendations from the Financial Sector Regulatory Appointments Search Committee (FSRASC).

- Headed by the Cabinet Secretary
- Includes the Secretary of the Department of Financial Services, RBI Governor, and three external experts
- FSRASC recommending the names for appointment of Chairperson and Members of Financial Sector Regulatory Bodies including those of SEBI chairman, Governor and Deputy Governors of Reserve Bank of India.
