Export of GI-Tagged Dalle Chilly from Sikkim to the Solomon Islands

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), under the Union Ministry of Commerce & Industry, has successfully exported the first consignment of GI-Tagged Dalle Chilly from Sikkim to the Solomon Islands.

About Dalle Chilly:

  • Also known as Fire Ball Chilly or Dalle Khursani.
  • Recognized for its intense pungency, bright red color, and high nutritional value.
  • Rich in vitamins A, C, and E, along with potassium.
  • Scoville Heat Units (SHU): 100,000 to 350,000, making it highly sought after for culinary and medicinal use.

Geographical Indication (GI) Tag:

  • Granted in 2020 by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry.
  • North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation (NERAMAC) facilitated the GI registration, boosting marketability.

Significance of Export:

  • Strengthens Sikkim’s global presence in the spice market.
  • Opens new avenues for international trade.
  • Highlights Sikkim’s potential as a key player in the global spice industry, given its ideal climate and fertile soil.
