The Nobel Peace Prize 2019 was awarded to Ethiopia Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali.
Announcing his name, Chair of the Norwegian Nobel Committee Berit Reiss-Andersen said that Mr. Abiy is awarded “for his efforts to achieve peace and international cooperation, and in particular for his decisive initiative to resolve the border conflict with neighbouring Eritrea.”
Nobel Peace Prize winner will receive some nine million Swedish crowns (about £730,000; $900,000).
His peace deal with Eritrea ended a 20-year military stalemate following their 1998-2000 border war.
Mr. Abiy was named as the winner of the 100th Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo, where he will receive the award in December.
