Edelman Trust Barometer 2025

The 2025 Edelman Trust Barometer was unveiled ahead of the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting. It highlights significant global trends in public trust. This year’s survey, conducted across 28 countries with over 33,000 respondents, reveals a pronounced rise in economic fears transforming into societal grievances. Notably, 60% of respondents report moderate to high levels of grievance.

  • India’s Trust Rankings:
    • Overall Trust: India slipped to third place in overall trust (government, businesses, media, and NGOs).
    • High-Income Group: Among high-income groups, India ranks fourth, trailing Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, and China.
    • Low-Income Group: For lower-income populations, India ranks third, following China and Indonesia.
  • Global Trends in Trust:
    • Japan replaced the UK at the bottom of the global trust rankings.
    • Trust levels are significantly lower among low-income populations than high-income groups in most surveyed countries, including India.
  • Trust in Indian Companies Abroad:
    • India ranks 13th in trust regarding companies headquartered within the country.
    • Canada leads in trust for foreign-headquartered companies, followed by Japan, Germany, the UK, France, and the US. Other countries ranked higher than India include Mexico, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, and China.
