- According to the Union Agriculture Ministry, the procurement of pulses and oilseeds has increased by almost 13 times during the last four and a half years as compared to the procurement done from 2009 – 2014.
- The Ministry said, during 2009-10 to 2013-14 only a quantity of 7.28 lakh tonnes of pulses and oilseeds was procured at MSP whereas, during the period from 2014-15 to 2018-19, a quantity of over 93 lakh tonnes of pulses and oilseeds were procured.
- It also said, more than 54 lakh farmers benefited from the procurement of pulses and oilseeds during this period.
- The Ministry said, the country has reported production of over 25 Million tonnes of pulses during 2017-18 against the production of around 15 Million Tonnes in the year 2009-10. Similarly, the production of oilseeds has increased from 2.49 Million Tonnes to 3.13 Million Tonnes, registering an increase of over 25 per cent.
- The Ministry said, raising Minimum Support Price to 1.5 times of the cost of production will further encourage the farmers to grow more pulses and oilseeds.
