Dr Philipose Mar Chrysostom

Dr Philipose Mar Chrysostom Mar Thoma Valiya Metropolitan-one of the longest serving bishops in India, died on May 5, 2021. He was 103 years old.

  • He was awarded the Padma Bhushan by President Ram Nath Kovind in 2018.
  • In his condolence message at the demise of the bishop, President Ram Nath Kovind said he had touched millions with his religiosity, compassion and service, specially to needy and downtrodden.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the demise of former head of the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church and the longest-serving bishop in India, Dr Philipose Mar Chrysostom. Mr. Modi said Mar Chrysostom will always be remembered for his great theological knowledge and his work towards alleviation of human suffering.
