Dinosaur fossil national park

A group of scientists recently discovered that residents of a tribal village in Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar district had been unknowingly worshipping dinosaur eggs as their family deities for years.

  • For years, scientists had been attempting to prove that the Bhil deity was, in fact, a fossilised dinosaur egg. A 2023 research paper proved just that. The latest discovery, scientists hope, will give a fillip to their nomination for India’s first UNESCO Global Geopark tag.
  • The Narmada Valley area, where the village is located, has been linked to the dinosaur era millions of years ago.
  • Upon the discovery of the dinosaur eggs, local authorities commenced an investigation.
  • Over 256 fossilised dinosaur eggs have been unearthed in Madhya Pradesh’s Bagh so far, with 20 nests unearthed recently.
  • Dinosaur fossil national park is located in the Bagh area of Dhar district on an area of 89 hectares.
  • Some of the rare fossils conserved in the Bagh fossil park are: 65 million years old petrified eggs of Herbivorous Dinosaur, which are considered amongst the biggest egg found in the history; 65 to 100 million years old bone remain of Sauropod and Abelisauras Dinosaur, which are considered amongst the biggest terrestrial animals in history; 74 to 100 million years old remain of Shark fish, found in Narmada valley; 70 million years old, sky scrapping trees of Narmada valley; 86 million years old fossilized marine creatures, found in Narmada waters.
